Acid Dyes
$6 - $7.80
15 gr package - enough to make 1.5L of 1% dye stock 40 colours available, including 4 Florescent colours These high quality dyes are used with an acid – vinegar or citric acid – to achieve excellent colour-fast results. For nylons and protein fibers: silk, wool, cashmere, alpaca, feathers, etc. Don’t freak out….the only acid involved is vinegar or citric acid that you add to the dye bath. These dyes can also be used for direct application for hand-painted yarns. Dyes come in powder form, in many base colours which can be used singly or mixed to achieve any colour under the sun.  A filtered mask is recommended when working with dyes in powder form but, once they’re mixed with water, they are no longer hazardous to the lungs. You don’t have to be an expert to dye yarn.  There are wonderful books and online instructional videos available.  Venture forth and experiment!
